Res Transforms Airborne Allergy Prevention
Combining precise pollen detection with actionable insights
Empowering people to breathe easier and live better

According to statistics, pollen allergies affect one in two people worldwide.
But in the whole of London there is only one robust pollen detection machine...

We interviewed over 20 allergy sufferers, conducted workshops with 10 users, and consulted several professors and industry experts to gather insights on current allergy management challenges. From these conversations, we identified significant frustration with the lack personalize allergy prevention tools.

Customers want effective data-driven methods to manage their allergic symptoms. However, they want to have a minimal way of sensing their triggers, with minimal manual intervention on their part. Customers also have their unique ways of mitigating their symptoms so we considered this in the app experience as well. Feedback from pollen and allergy experts also helped refine our concept technically.

Skateholder Workshop

The current pollen measurement system still retains the design of the last century,
but here are many drawbacks
Inadequate Sensor
Limited and inadequate distribution of accurate pollen sensors leads to location bias, affecting the reliability of pollen data in many localities.
Unverifiable Correlation
Unlike weather data, pollen counts are difficult to verify; low-fidelity sensors can report low pollen levels while individuals still react to allergens, leading to uncertainty in managing symptoms.
Cognitive Biases
Even those with severe allergens have cognitive biases around their allergens but lack accurate testing, knowledge or equipment, potentially misidentifying the sources of their reactions.
No Lifestyle Changes
Simply providing a forecast on pollen levels may not be enough to encourage lifestyle changes; individuals need predictable, actionable data and solutions that still considers their preferences.

" Current methods of pollen allergy avoidance are inadequate. With almost any amount of pollen being an allergic trigger...
So what if pollen forecasts can be designed to be more localized and effective for allergy avoidance and mitigation? "
Our team looked at the issue of allergies from multiple perspectives.
- From a clinical diagnostic and treatment perspective, the primary measure of avoidance seemed to be the best option for treating pollen allergies.
- From a technical perspective finding an appropriate mode to sample pollen with sufficient accuracy was incredibly important.
- From a patient perspective, knowing when its safest to travel with a lower risk of exposure and allergic reaction became one more goal for us.
RES device
Collecting data from multiple sensors enables better-localized protection.
Distributing pollen sensors helps to remove location bias in pollen data. This improves the reach of pollen detection data and can serve to increase understanding of what is in our air.
RES app
Res app can show ways to avoid pollen or to mitigate their allergies with more bespoke dosages of antihistamine intervention.
We did not stop at just the sensor we consider how we multiply its effective efficacy and range.
