Cronic Kidney disease

effortless screening

Project Overview
Urify is a revolutionizing toilet product, it detects elevated levels of urinary albumin—one of the earliest clinical indicators of kidney damage—release cleaning foam which contain detection agent and using a colour-change reaction during normal toilet use.
Inspiration
The inspiration for Urify came from personal experience. My dad was diagnosed with CKD stage3 — a late stage where some kidney damage is already irreversible. The diagnosis came as a shock, particularly because he had shown no symptoms at all, not even related diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes. I quickly realised there was a lack of accessible, effortless screening options for early detection.
For CKD itself,  often asymptomatic in its early stages. For public behavior, people usually don't seek body check when they feel they are healthy. That's mean when it is reversible(in the early stage) people can not realize it, when people realize it, it already non reversible... I wanted to create a solution that makes health screening effortless and could fit into everyone's everyday behaviour.
How it works
Urify consists of a dissolvable tablet fixed beneath the toilet bowl rim. During flushing, the tablet releases a thick, foaming substance that lines the interior of the bowl. When urine comes into contact with this foam, a chemical reaction may trigger a colour change in the affected area—prompting users to seek professional medical advice when they see the colour contrast.People already have the behaviour to buy toilet cleaning tablets, and Urify is a 1+1 version of that, so people can accept it more easily and use it naturally. The system is designed to be intuitive, discreet, and hygienic, providing peace of mind without changing user behaviour or requiring any form of sample collection. The colour change is deliberately subtle yet visible, to avoid unnecessary alarm while still prompting awareness. When illness is present, the foam turns blue. I also developed a colour wheel and computer vision system to help users gain clearer insights and advice.
How is it different?
While current screening methods exist, they often rely on individual awareness or are difficult to access. Pharmacy urine kits require users to suspect something is wrong—unlikely when no symptoms are felt. Community screening usually not enough to detect at early stage, and hospital assessments still depend on proactive behaviour.Urify offers a completely different path. It integrates with an existing routine—using toilet cleaners—providing effortless screening experience. There's no need to have extra thinking or change habits, the feedback appears only when something is wrong.Unlike dipsticks or lab tests, which are reactive and often overlooked, or smart toilets that are expensive and hard to install, Urify is simple, affordable, and easy to adopt at scale. Much like the first fluoride toothpaste, which changed how people engaged with dental care, Urify reframes health engagement—transforming an ordinary habit into a opportunity for public wellbeing.
